THE GIANT REMEMBERS. ENOCH TOLD US
An experimental short by Donald Alfred Morin
Originally presented as Giant on the Loose
A playful exploration of giants, memory and mysterious encounters, bringing together theatrical performance, night landscapes, green-screen experiments, 360° footage and a constructed soundtrack.
My fascination with giants began in childhood, encouraged by a three-volume Reader’s Digest collection exploring mysteries and cryptozoology. Years later, a drama project at Concordia University of Edmonton gave me the opportunity to bring that interest into performance and filmmaking.
Research into the Book of Enoch and stories of giants informed the character, spoken passages and imagery. The giant searches through trees and darkness, while words concerning ancestors, family, conflict and spirits suggest fragments of a remembered world.
I performed the giant and created the sound while studying MIDI and digital audio. This continued an exploration that began during my Commodore Amiga years, when an external audio-capture device allowed me to collect, sample and transform recordings. Here, sound collage and layered images work together to give the character an elusive presence, moving between humour and menace.
A small film made with curiosity, experimentation and the pleasure of creating together.
