A Summer’s Dream was the first song I wrote when I began songwriting, around June or July 1980. I wrote it for Danielle.
When we fell in love, she was 19 and I was 20. We became parents to our son, Dorian. In the summer of 1980, I was serving a sentence for mistakes I had made as a young man; I later received a pardon. Danielle came to visit me during that time. Her visits, and what we meant to each other, stayed with me as I wrote this song.
This 2026 cover version of my own song brings those early days together with photographs from the life and family that followed. What began as a young man’s love song has become a way to remember Danielle and give thanks for our son and his family.
I dedicate A Summer’s Dream to Danielle’s ancestors, her sisters, brothers and relations, to Dorian and his family, and to everyone who holds her in their heart. I hope they feel the love with which I wrote it and share it again today.
