Between November 12-14, 2008, the historic Defenders of the Land gathering took place in Winnipeg. The gathering brought together dozens of grassroots activists, elders, youth, women and men from Indigenous communities across "Canada" who are in active struggle to defend their land and assert self-determination. The second Defenders of the Land gathering was recently held in Vancouver, Coast Salish Territories, in November 2009.

Members of No One Is Illegal-Montreal have recently uploaded thirteen interviews with participants from the 2008 Defenders of the Land Gathering in Winnipeg.

Part 4. The Militarization of the Olympics - Native groups targetted

Part 4 describes what has been dubbed as 'Fortress British Columbia', the largest public security operation in the history of Canada. The RCMP will coordinate the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit - 12,000 officers - composed of the Vancouver Police, Coast Guard, Border Patrol, and the armed forces to man the Olympic Venues. This includes 300 soldiers from Canada's special anti-terrorist unit, Joint Task Force 2, an Emergency Response Team, and the Crowd Control unit also known as the riot police. Security zones with authorized IDs for officials, athletes and local residents will be established, and monitored by closed circuit television surveillance systems that can detect motion as well. In March 2007, CSIS published a threat assessment listing Indigenous people and anti-poverty groups as their primary security concern. Part 3 focuses on the grassroots actions the indigenous communities have been undertaking to defend their land and right to self-determination. It also highlights the criminalization of Indigenous resistance.

Part 2 is about elder, Harriet Nahanee, and her struggle against the destruction brought on by the development of the Sea to Sky Highway Expansion, a main artery from Vancouver city to the Whistler ski resort (a 2010 venue).
