Shirley Kisoun was born and raised in a tent on the banks of the east branch of Inuvik. She is the fourth child of Victor and Bertha Allen. Her father is from Inupiat and her mother Bertha from Vuntut Gwichin nation in Old Crow, Yukon.
Growing up in two cultures was a challenge for her, she was raised by my grandmother in her culture until she moved back to her parents to attend school.
She is a beneficiary of the Inuvialuit land claims and raised her family knowing the two cultures. She is a great grandmother and is active in her community as an advocate for her people. Shirley loves sharing her traditional knowledge and sharing her two cultures.
